Julie’s Process is Your Process

Julie Marsh has a unique gift for working with a writer’s own creative process, rather than imposing one of her own. She customizes her notes to your process and presents the analysis as a conversation, so that you are certain to be “on the same page” with your screenplay and your career goals.

Writers and independent producers now have access to the best elements of the studio story development process – a terrific story editor — without the “hellish” aspects. The script analysis and consulting services offered by Julie Marsh through YourBestDraft.com resemble the process used by the entertainment industry, but here, you set the agenda. Story meetings and notes are individually targeted to meet your career goals and to better position your script for the changing Hollywood marketplace. No matter how things change, one thing remains constant: the importance of vivid, imaginative storytelling.

YourBestDraft.com combines the insight and understanding of a professional screenwriter with the experience of a development executive to offer story analysis services.

Julie Marsh has developed material for studio-scale feature films as well as low-budget independent films. From ComiCon to Book Expo, her “Big Picture” understanding of the entertainment marketplace is a great asset. Whether you are honing a pitch or treatment, polishing a spec, deciphering development notes, adapting your graphic novel, or you just need an objective read before you turn in a draft you’ve written for hire, story meetings and notes from YourBestDraft.com can help you make your next draft your best draft.

Julie Marsh – Full Bio

Julie Marsh’s approach to working with writers and with narrative is informed by twelve years of professional experience in the motion picture business, a strong academic background, and her own process as a writer. Julie now provides story development and script analysis services through her consulting company, YourBestDraft.com.

As a development executive for Arthur Leeds Productions, Julie worked closely with well-known screenwriters to develop stories from concept to pitch to finished script.

In addition to developing projects for major studios and cable networks, Julie also helped shape projects for lower budget features. Independent of the company, Julie has years of experience consulting on studio scale features, Indie features, micro-budget features, short films, and edits of films in progress. Julie’s story process is based on face-to-face story meetings, and can therefore step into the process as early as the initial concept before any actual writing takes place, and can facilitate meetings with any number of story “stake holders.”

Creative Screenwriting Magazine produced Julie’s lecture, “GENRE WORKS: The Screenwriter’s Guide to Horror,” as a DVD for their popular Expo Instructional Series. Julie has judged scripts for the Creative Screenwriting Expo’s Scriptwriting Contests. Additionally, Julie offers her services to the New Visions Fellowship and the Cynosure Contest.

As a writer, Julie has also co-written and co-produced a number of award-winning short films for the 48 Hour Film Festival. The most recent, a spoof, CATS ON A PLANE, was featured on Good Morning America. She has written children’s cartoons for Disney and has worked on Acclaim’s 9Dragons, a MMO (Massive Multi-Player On-line) video game. Julie is also adept at generating pitch and treatment documents, and has been known to write actual screenplays, when pressed into service.

In addition, as a producer, Julie has several feature projects in production in development, including the feature-length documentary, BECOMING ATTRACTION, which has shot in Brighton England, Myrtle Beach, and Orlando, and a narrative feature that will take her home to New Mexico for production.

Prior to her career in entertainment, Julie completed a Master of Fine Arts degree in Screenwriting at University of Miami, where she studied screenwriting and producing. She graduated with honors from UC Santa Barbara with a BA in Film Studies, and with Distinction in the Major. Originally from, Julie was raised in Los Alamos, NM, where, throughout high school, she interned with both local papers and was a regular host and reporter on the Public Access Cable station and the FM radio station.

Julie now lives, and thrives, in Los Angeles.
